About LokAi #
The name “LokAi” may seem unusual at first. However, it’s derived from the Slovak word “Lokaj,” which means a servant, concierge, or majordomo. The name is also reminiscent of the English abbreviation “Local AI.”
The desing of the app’s icon is inspired by some scene from an old movie where I saw a servant with lantern opening the house gates in a rainy night:
What is inside #
LokAi is powered by its own AI model, which means you don’t need to create an account or subscribe to online AI services. All computations are performed locally on your computer, and it can even run offline. However, this approach has some drawbacks, such as slower performance and higher hardware requirements.
AI model #
LokAi currently uses the AI model llama-3.1-8b, developed by Meta. The “8b” in the model name indicates that it has approximately 8 billion parameters.
What can it do? #
LokAi is a text processing AI assistant that takes input text and generates output text. It does not currently support images. LokAi can answer a wide range of questions and was trained on data up to December 2023. Its primary use case is analyzing and answering questions related to your own data, which may be too large or valuable to send to online AI services for analysis. Typical use cases include software code analysis and generation. You can also use it to chat about various topics, such as science, books, or movies. LokAi can also help you learn new things, generate math examples, and check your solutions. However, it’s essential to cross-check its answers, as it may be wrong sometimes.
LokAi can communicate in multiple languages, but some languages may be more accurate than others. If you experience issues with the language, try asking LokAi in your native language and asking it to respond in English.
I will share some interesting use cases on this website in the future.
